Restaurants and Cafés in the Berlin Palace – Humboldt Forum

Press release

Berlin, 9 August 2018

Behind the historical and modern facades of the Berlin Palace, there will be a wide range of gastronomic options available at the Humboldt Forum. Two cafés, a bistro and two restaurants will provide space for a total of 1,200 people, with 680 seats indoors and 520 outside. The Stiftung is currently putting the concessions for the management of these areas out to tender, inviting offers from across the EU. Further information can be found here.

The Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss expects to receive an annual stream of some three million visitors, who will be spoilt for choice by the gastronomic delights on offer in the Palace. The facilities will also cater to the many museums on Museum Island.

A bistro and a large restaurant located on the ground floor have a direct connection to the reconstructed Schlüterhof courtyard, with outdoor catering facilities on the banks of the Spree and overlooking the Lustgarten (bistro 929 m², restaurant 1,280 m²). The second restaurant (625 m²) on the roof of the Palace has a wonderful view out over the Lustgarten and the roofs of the historical heart of Berlin.

One of the cafés is located on the first floor of the stair hall between the arcade and the monumental entrance hall behind the Eosander Gate (270 m²). Visitors will find the other café – also on the first floor – in the Berlin Exhibition behind the large Schlüter Gate in the east wing of the building (190 m²).

The concessions will be awarded in three batches. The first includes the café in the stair hall, the café in the Berlin Exhibition and the bistro in the Schlüterhof courtyard on the ground floor. The second covers the large restaurant in the Schlüterhof courtyard and the third, the roof restaurant.

The process of awarding the concessions will take place in two stages. There will initially be a competitive tender, allowing interested parties to apply for one, two or all three batches. This phase will run until 10 September 2018.
